The Scott County Outdoor Team is currently working to get their tax exempt status and they’re hoping to get L.L.C. status so corporations can use them as a tax shelter and donate funds. Right now, this non-profit team is having to raise their own funds and would appreciate any donations. It takes $8,000 to $10,000 yearly just for ammunition needed for practice.
S.C.O.T. usually meets on Sunday afternoons at the Wilderness Road Conservation and Shooting Club off East Carters Valley Road in Scott County.
They are currently welcoming new team members. Call (276) 386-4252 or (423) 247-6494 for more information.

Sometimes it is really a suprise to me that more people don’t or won’t get involved with our younger generation. It is time we all took a stand against drugs, violence and troubled youngsters, whatever their problems may be. The Scott County Outdoor Team is only one example of an “outlet” for kids against peer pressure. There is always an adult available to talk about any subject and whether you are a great shooter or cannot even hit the target, you will never be put down or feel ashamed. Every child needs a chance to succeed and the Scott Conty Outdoor Team is willing to work with and give anyone that chance. May God bless you coaches and team members. Also, thank you Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries for developing this program through Hunter Education. This should be a wake up call for other agencies in our state to get on board with programs for our young people, not handouts. Thanks to all who help and thank you Tim Cable for bringing this program to the attention of your viewers.

Thank you Tim for bringing acknowlegement to this great team!! This program offers the hands on approach to safely learn how to shoot firearms and archery. Our coaches are very knowledgable and willing to share their talent to help kid’s learn about part of our heritage. The proof is in the pudding, we have 2 state archery champions, a junior state archery team and rifle team, and a senior state team. This is quite a compliment and speaks for the talents of the kids and coaches!!! We would like to encourage any boy or GIRL to come try us out. We need girls to fill the new girls team!!! We look forward to seeing you on the range!!!

Thank you for a wonderful segment on our boys. This turned out great!!!! Tim, we appreciate you spending your day with us.
Everyone was so excited to watch this on Monday afternoon and the worst thing happened in Gate City, Weber City, Yuma, and Hiltons we lost power, some of us until midnight so some did not get to see this at 5:55. We have a wonderful program and yes we have great coaches who really enjoy what they are doing. (come on girls sign up we need to show the boys how to shoot)

Congratulations Scott County boys! A fine job indeed. I’m glad to see these young boys have a past time which is supervised and teaches safty, responsibility and teamwork. The coaches deserve a pat on the back also…for giving their time, talent, and wisdom to help our younger generation.
And…Tim Cable, I hope we will see a follow-up story on the 2009 state competition and the girls team that was mentioned.
